Fifteen dogs

Winner of the 2015 Scotiabank Giller Prize, Fifteen Dogs.

One evening in Toronto, the gods Apollo and Hermes were at the Wheat Sheaf Tavern.

Thus begins the story Fifteen Dogs by Andre Alexis winner of the 2015 Scotiabank Giller Prize. The story is a modern day parable about what happens when 15 dogs in a Toronto veterinary clinic are given human consciousness. This is a wonderful and original piece of writing. I was hooked from the beginning.

As the 2015 winner, Andre Alexis receives $100,000 and a two-week residency at the Banff Centre in their picturesque Leighton Artists' Colony.  An amazing award for an amazing writer.
