AM Primary Source

Explore history through original source materials. AM Primary Source provides access to digitized historical documents, photographs, letters, diaries, maps, manuscripts, and other archival materials. These collections offer firsthand perspectives on historical events, cultures, and people. Please note that AM Primary is only available in person in the Library. Access to this collection is provided by Western University.

Getting Started

 

To access AM Primary, you will need to use one of the computers at the Library or join the Library's Public WIFI.

 

Using the Database

 

  • Start with broad search terms before narrowing your results.
  • Use keywords such as names, places, events, or subjects instead of full questions.
  • Try alternate names, historical place names, and older spellings.
  • Browse by collection, subject, or time period to discover additional materials.
  • Follow links between related people, organizations, events, and documents.

This database provides access to original historical materials. As a result, some content may contain graphic images, difficult subject matter, or language that users may find offensive or upsetting.


The views, descriptions, and terminology found in these materials reflect the historical periods in which they were created and do not reflect the views of the Library Board or Library employees.
