Library’s catalogue

Search for items using the Library’s catalogue or by coming to any one of our 16 library locations.

If the item you are looking for is checked out or not yet available, you may place a hold which will put you on a waiting list for that item.  You can also place a hold to have an item delivered to your closest library branch.

Items are automatically renewed 3 days before the due date unless there is an outstanding hold on the item or it has been renewed 3 times. Patrons will receive a courtesy email notice to let them know which items have been renewed. Patrons can also call the Library at 519-661-4600 to check the status of items on their account.

Materials which may not be renewed:

  • Quick Picks LPL Express items

  • in high demand
  • on hold

Each location has a materials return chute which is open whenever the library is closed except for Cherryhill and Sherwood branches (chutes only available during mall operating hours). The Central Library has two return chutes; an exterior one located beside the entry doors facing Dundas St. and an interior one located in the wall beside the library windows facing the Citi Plaza courtyard.

London Public Library no longer charges overdue fines on any items.

You don't have to worry about overdue fines when you return your overdue items. No late fines will be charged on materials returned past the due date.

It's important to be aware that if an item is more than 28 days overdue the replacement cost of the material will be charged to your Library card. However, once the item is returned then the replacement cost will be waived and no overdue fines will be charged. The Library uses the services of a Collection Agency and outstanding accounts may be referred to that Agency.

Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns about late items.

If you lose or damage an item, you will be asked to pay a replacement cost.

Payment for replacement costs can be made at any London Public Library location. Debit, MasterCard, Visa and American Express are accepted at all locations except for Glanworth. Payment may also be made online through My Account using your Visa, Mastercard or American Express credit card, or PayPal account.

Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns around your lost or damaged items. We want to help everyone continue to be able to use the Library.

You may place holds by accessing your account in the catalogue, or by phone at 519-661-4600 or in person at any location (please be prepared to provide the number on your library card number).

When your hold arrives, you will be notified:

  • by email if you provided your email address to us when you registered for or updated your library card OR
  • by telephone (if you didn't provide your email address to us when you registered or updated your library card) via London Public Library's automated voice system when the reserved materials are ready for you to pick up.

These items will be held for you for 7 days. There is a limit of 60 holds per card.

Going on vacation and don't want to lose your place in the hold list? You have the option to "freeze" your holds. Freezing the hold means that you will be passed over each time the hold comes up, but your hold will remain in the queue. Remember to unfreeze your holds when you are ready to receive your holds again. The freeze will not work if the STATUS is "IN TRANSIT" or "Ready. Must pick up by..." or if you are already #1 in the hold list. Find out how.

If you no longer need the items that you have placed on hold, you can go to your account (My Account) in the catalogue, view your holds list and cancel the holds no longer required or call the library that is holding the item (the pickup location) and ask the staff to cancel the hold for you.

By canceling holds you no longer need, the items become available for others to request and you have also saved staff time and resources!
