We Remember #OurLondonFamily

Our London Family

The Library stands with London’s Muslim community as an ally, a community resource and partner, and as a safe space for Londoners to gather and to learn together. We are also strengthened by members of the Muslim community as members of our staff, our volunteers, and the London Public Library Board.

London Public Library demonstrates its support by displaying materials in support of the Muslim community in its locations and offering reading lists for adults, teens and families representing contemporary Muslim authors and perspectives, which honour Muslim experiences and explore themes of racism and empathy.

As a community partner, London Public Library supports Our London Family’s commemorative initiatives by encouraging an environment of collaboration and community discourse among Londoners.

Since 2022, London Public Library has been part of a subcommittee of community partners and organizations, including the City of London, Muslim Resource Centre for Social Support and Integration, Youth Coalition Combating Islamophobia, Western University, London Health Sciences Centre, Thames Valley District School Board, and London Catholic District School Board. The role of the subcommittee is to support and plan commemoration events for the remembrance of the Afzaal family.

For observances and events taking place in June, visit the City of London webpage.

Let's Talk About Race green bag with book and toys around it

London Public Library also offers Let’s Talk About Race kits, available for borrowing with your library card. These kits are designed to encourage families, caregivers, and educators to have open and constructive conversations about race, racial differences, racial inequality, and racism with their children or students in an age-appropriate way.

Let's Talk About Race kits are generoulsy supported by Library donors and by London's Anti-Hate Project. London's Anti-Hate Project is led by the City of London's Anti-Racism and Anti-Opression Division and made possible through funding from the Province of Ontario's Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism.
