A Beloved Green Space Reimagined

We’re thrilled to share that the Rotary Reading Garden at Central Library has officially reopened following a thoughtful renovation. This cherished outdoor space has welcomed both residents and visitors to the City for over 20 years—and now it’s ready for a new chapter of community engagement.

Located in the heart of downtown London, the refreshed Reading Garden has been reimagined as a vibrant, fully accessible space designed for both quiet reflection and lively community events. A space that honours the Rotary Reading Garden’s history, while preparing it to meet the evolving needs of Londoners.

The Library’s reading garden is one of the most charming spaces along this stretch, offering a garden oasis for downtown dwellers to gather, enjoy music, poetry, and of course, read.”— Eunju Yi, Executive Director, London Arts Council

What’s New in the Garden

  • A direct, accessible entrance from Dundas Place, complete with ramp and secure gate, which will be opened during events
  • The pergola and performance area has been relocated to the back of the Garden in an area with better acoustics and comfortable turf. This area will be used for music performances, storytimes, and cultural events
  • Large, garden-inspired musical instruments for sensory play, a Story Circle and dedicated area for children and families
  • Enhanced landscaping, including trees and pollinator plantings, accessible pathways, and improved seating throughout the garden
  • Upgraded lighting and electrical systems to better support extended use and programs and events

The renovated Reading Garden is now better equipped to offer opportunities for everyone to visit regularly and to engage in outdoor programs like yoga and tai chi, family storytimes, story walks, outdoor movie nights, live music performances, art exhibits, festivals, and other community events.

Donor Support Made Transformation Possible

The reimagining of the Rotary Reading Garden as a more vibrant, fully accessible, and multi-use community space would not be possible without the support of our community.

We are extremely grateful to the funders and donors who have supported the Rotary Reading Garden renovation project, including:

  • The City of London
  • The Rotary Club of London
  • Brian and Heather Semkowski Family Foundation
  • Lerners
