Black History Month is a time to celebrate Black history, culture, and the artists and community members who continue to shape our city. This February, London Public Library invites you to join us for two welcoming events created in partnership with the London Black Heritage Council.

Black History Month Family Celebration

Bring the whole family to our annual Black History Month Family Celebration on February 14 at Central Library, presented in conjunction with the London Black Heritage Council, the City of London, and the London Children’s Museum. Families can enjoy fun games, creative crafts, and interactive workshops, along with a talented lineup of local artists sharing music, dance, storytelling, and more. All are welcome.

Black History Month 2026 Closing Ceremony

End the month together at the Black History Month 2026 Closing Ceremony on February 28 at Central Library's Wolf Performance Hall, hosted by the London Black Heritage Council and London Public Library. This grand finale will showcase a vibrant mix of performances by talented Black artists across multiple genres, including dance, spoken word, singing, and more. Following the performances, guests are invited to stay for a reception featuring delicious cuisine provided by a local Black-owned restaurant. Tickets are available here.

Black Canadian Author Spotlight

Alongside these celebrations, the Library is highlighting a Black Canadian Authors Spotlight, featuring two curated book lists: one for adult readers and one for children. Together, these lists showcase a wide range of voices, genres, and stories by Black Canadian writers, offering opportunities for readers of all ages to engage with Black history and culture through reading throughout February and beyond.

Together, these events and reading opportunities reflect the Library’s role as a welcoming community space where culture, learning, and celebration come together.
