Making Mealtime Family Learning Time
Family Literacy Day is about sharing the joy of learning as a family. On January 24, London Public Library is bringing that idea to life through the theme of food literacy.
Families are invited to join us at Central Library on Saturday, January 24, from 10am until 2pm for an exciting lineup of free activities, workshops, storytimes, and songs led by your favourite librarians.
Each year, on Family Literacy Day, librarians from the Library's 16 neighbourhood library branches come to Central Library to be part of this exciting event, bringing fun activities and an enthusiasm for learning. Community organizations who support children and families also join us on this day. This year, participating organizations include the London Children’s Museum, who are bringing dinosaur bones, and Growing Chefs! Ontario, who will offer free Family Kitchen workshops throughout the day.
An exciting addition to this year's Family Literacy Day are Family Kitchen Workshops led by Growing Chefs! Ontario, which will take place throughout the day. At this workshop, families will learn together while making a simple winter fruit salad. Along the way, children build confidence using kid-friendly kitchen tools, explore age-appropriate tasks, and learn how cooking can be creative, fun, and shared.
An important part of Family Literacy Day is providing families with easy ways to keep the learning going at home. This year, every family who attends will receive a take-home bag that includes helpful information and engaging activities.
This event takes place on the main floor of Central Library. For those driving, two hours of free parking at Citi Plaza is available. Pick up a parking voucher from the main desk at Central Library.
Family Literacy Day at the Library brings learning to life through shared experiences that connect families. By gathering around food, stories, and shared experiences, families are invited to celebrate, learn, and play together, and to see mealtime and food preparation as an opportunity for learning and connection.
Family Literacy Day is made possible thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the London Public Library, whose ongoing support helps strengthen programs and services for families across the city.
